Blue Blueberry Pancakes

Make a day out of teaching your preschooler colors. Start in the morning with blue, blueberry pancakes! Soak your fresh or frozen blueberries in a bowl of water to wash and plump them up. Then toss them in to your favorite pancake mix; I use Pamela's Pancake Mix. Stir them up with a few drops of blue food coloring.

Talk to your little people about blueberries, the color, where they came from.  Try letting your little people squish a few and talk about what happens. Use whatever you have on hand: strawberries for red, kiwi for green, and banana pancakes for yellow.

When blue breakfast is over, blow up some blue balloons and play balloon games.  I think its safe to say my Little Bear learned blue today. Just for fun, head to the public library and pick up a copy of Blueberries for Sal, a 1949 Caldecott Winner, by Robert McCloskey.
